20% off Sunglasses
Factor 50 suncream didn't exist when I was a child. In fact, I suspect many parents thought a little bit of sun was good for our skin. We now know otherwise, and therefore, I spent most of the weekend trying to smear a wriggly 8-month-old in the thick white potion, diligently reapply after every paddling pool dip.
It's currently The British Association of Dermatologists Sun Awareness Week. Their poll has revealed that 70 percent of us do not reapply suncream as recommended. Estimates suggest only 40% of people wear sunglasses regularly. From my experience, many people seem to believe that if they are 'not sensitive to bright light' or have 'never worn' them, then they don't need to. While I agree that some people are more sensitive to light than others it certainly does not make the rest of the population immune to the sun's damaging effects.
Sunglasses help to reduce glare, light sensitivity, improve your vision in bright light, reduce dry eye symptoms, prevent car accidents, reduce headaches and eye strain but even if these things don’t bother you, one of the most important functions of sunglasses is to act as UV protection for the outside and inside of your eyes. Sunglasses help to protect eyes from future cataracts, macular degeneration, and melanomas. Confronted with these facts, many people are concerned that they haven't worn them throughout their life. Just like sun cream, it is never too late to start.
The facts:
Every year the NHS removes 350,000 cataracts. Wearing sunglasses especially earlier in life can delay the onset of cataracts.
1 in 10 over 65s suffer from macular degeneration. Wearing sunglasses can help prevent macular degeneration.
On average I refer 2-3 clients per year for suspect eyelid rodent ulcers and melanomas. Wearing sunglasses protects the delicate skin around your eyes which we can’t apply sun cream to.
So this is what I recommend: Children should start wearing sunglasses as soon as they will keep them on. Baby Banz sunglasses fit from 6 months old.
If you spend time partaking in sports, you should check out the new designs from Bolle and Cebe. They are light, sporty and tough and fit children, teenagers, and adults.
When in the car then there is only one lens that will cut through the low sun and glare from wet roads that cause 3,000 accidents a year and that is Serengeti – the sunglasses we all wear behind the wheel.
Every lens we provide is 100% UVA and UVB protective and are available in non-prescription and prescription lenses including varifocals. Frame choice is also extremely important to ensure comfort, durability, and fit and make sure no UV rays are creeping around the sides. Come in anytime and see Gill or Sean for personal sunglass fitting and advice and receive 20% off sunglass frames and lenses until the end of May.
